Moving your website to another provider

While we would love for you to stay with us as a client, we understand you might want to change providers for your website management and digital marketing.

We request that you give us 14 days notice so that we can provide you with the access you and your new provider need to complete the transition. Once your site has been moved to your new server, we will delete your site from our servers within 30 days.

Please email support@sgd.com.au to start the process.

A note on cPanel access: Our web hosting is not based on cPanel, so we cannot provide cPanel access. We use Google Cloud servers for high-performance web hosting, which does not utilise cPanel.

Maintaining your WordPress website

If you are pausing or stopping your website support with us, your website will still need regular maintenance so that it functions correctly.

You will need a team to take care of the following items that we will no longer be providing:

  • Regular uptime monitoring
  • Daily security scan for malware and vulnerable plugins
  • Daily backups (stored on secure cloud hosting)
  • Monthly maintenance of WordPress
  • Monthly update of plugins, database optimisation and spam cleanup
  • Correction of issues from updates and changes
  • You will no longer have access to our support team desk
  • You will be responsible for paying for any WordPress premium plugins that your site uses

You will also no longer have access to our website and digital marketing services as we only contract with our monthly client list of clients so they get our full attention.

Moving your WordPress website files and database

To download your WordPress files and database, you can login to your WordPress website and use a backup plugin. You can use this backup to migrate your files and database to your new hosting platform.

Popular backup plugins include:

  • UpdraftPlus
  • BackWPup
  • Duplicator

This can be performed by anyone with admin login access to your website.

If you would like us to send you a copy of your website files and database please email support@sgd.com.au

Note that depending on the size of your website, this process can take some time for us to download and share this to you.

We recommend that your new provider completes this process for you so they can get what they need in the format they require.

Access to your domain name

With access to your domain name, you can change the DNS settings to point to a new web host.

Simply login to your domain name provider and update the DNS settings.

If we are managing your domain for you, we will need to request a new EPP code so you can transfer your domain to your new provider.

Please email support@sgd.com.au to request the EPP code and it will be sent through to you in 2-5 business days.
